| 1- The History of the Library |

Turkish Military Academy was first established by Mahmut II in Maçka, İstanbul in July 1, 1835. When Mahmut II came to the school to open it, he rested in the library. The library has changed its places for political, economic and social conditions since then.
TMA was moved to Ankara in September, 25 1936 and located at the building known as Atatürk Site. Then the education time span was changed from 2 to 4 years between the years 1948 and 1974 depending on the conditions. On May 17, 2000 TMA was officially accepted as a university.

The library was located at Atatürk Site between the years 1936 and 1983. Between the years 1983 and 1989 it was located on the ground floor of the dean's office Building. The collection was about 12 000. 1 officer and four civilians were in charge.
Between the years 1989 and 1999 the library was moved to the fifth floor at the same building. During that time the library was a unit Education Department. One of the missions of the Department was "to follow and control of the library, to develop the collection, to take measures and to acknowledge the Command in order to encourage the users".

| 2- Mission Statement |

In order to support the education and training activities, to acquire every kind of material which contains any information that will provide self-development and self-improvement of the cadets, lecturers and other personnel, and to take precautions to improve the usage of the library. |
3- The Floor Plan and Facilities |

The library has 5 floors:
In the basement there are 5 book depots.
On the ground floor there are 1 thesis and project room and 4 club rooms.
On the first floor, there are offices, reference books, broadcasting room, system control room, photocopy room, HAEK ( Staff College E- Library), Private Reading Room, IGPC ( Information Gathering and Publication Center) and IGPC Archive.
On the second floor there is FLEC ( Foreign Language Education Center) with its CD cabins, computer room , TV rooms, DVD rooms and audio-visual collection section.
On the third floor there is reading hall, circulation desk and search computers. |

| 5- The Collection |
| |
The collection includes books, periodicals, newspapers, electronic databases, audio-visual materials and HAEK ( Staff College E- Library). |
| 6- Loan Rules |
| |
Cadets can borrow 3 books for 15 days. The lecturers can borrow 10 books for one month. Non-print materials, except education materials, cannot be taken out of the library. Users can use non-print materials only in the library. The required pages from the reference books that cannot be taken out of the library, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc., can be photocopied inside the library. Photocopy is free of charge. |
